Vision

The college seeks to educate the young men in its charge in consonance with the teachings of Raja  Rammohan Roy, Prince DwarakaNath Tagore, 1st Wrangler Anandamohan Roy, SivnathShastri,  Rastra Guru Surendranath Banerjee, Heramba Chandra Moitra, Prafulla Chandra Roy, Umeschandra Dutta and their ideals of man making and character building and at the same time impart formal  education - ecologically sustainable and socially relevant - in Commerce in accordance with the  Calcutta university curriculum. In other words, as it prepares students for university examination it also attends to their overall growth and development so that they may grow into strong and healthy individual with sound moral principles and becomes good citizen in respect of higher values of life and be conscious of their obligation and duty to the society at large.

Mission

The mission of the college has always been the development of the complete man. In the first half of the twentieth century there was a great demand of university level education in commerce to mitigate the large scale unemployment problem and prepare man power required for industry, trade and commerce. To meet such a demand the City group of Colleges almost did a pioneer’s job by opening commerce department in the year 1939. Umeschandra College was inaugurated in 1946 as morning section of the commerce department. The goal was to make education more useful to social needs. The objective was to train youth in the field of commerce and business administration and make them professionally sound as well as to help develop their consciousness of social responsibility and socio-cultural values.

OBJECTIVES

1. To impart higher education to eligible youths and making them self reliant with a commerce degree.
2. To provide inclusive atmosphere and ensure equal access to the opportunities of higher education for every student irrespective of their social, economic, religious, linguistic or gender status.
3. To provide inexpensive education to deserving candidates without compromising with the quality of education and standard of infrastructure.
4. To ignite the intellectual curiosity among students and educate them with ecologically sustainable knowledge needed for serving the cause of mankind through its application in social field.
5. Spreading consciousness among students against social prejudice, discrimination and equality.
6. Motivating students towards various cultural, social and physical activities leading to greater commitment to society.
